5 Tips to Make Campfire Burgers Even Better
Burgers are, without a doubt, at their best when cooked on an open fire while you're camping. Other people may say that's not true. And those people are wrong. But there are 5 things that people do that ruin their chances at a divine burger. Here's what you need to know!
1. YOUR CHOICE FOR CHOICE MEAT
When it comes to buying meat for your campfire burgers, people think price equals taste. And it does not. When dealing with an open fire, we want our burgers to have some fat. If you buy some expensive meat, it will have a lower fat content. This will give you a dried out hunk of meat instead of a delicious, tasty burger. Look for around 15 to 20 percent fat in your meat. And buy regular meat, not the patties.
2. 'TIS THE SEASON
Seasonings are really important to a tasty burger. What's really important is not overdoing it. Keep it simple. Meat is tasty on its own. Too many seasonings simply take away from the burger's unique flavor and replaces it with flavors you taste everyday. Salt and pepper is going to be absolutely perfect for a burger. It heightens the flavor of the burger while not overpowering it.
3. THEY MUST BE ITALIAN
Fragile. Burgers are fragile things. When you take 4 ounces of meat and form it into a patty, a lot can go wrong. You can start to break down the beautiful structure of the burger; making it crumbly, making it dry out. Be careful when you are forming your burgers, just a few hand motions should be enough to take your meat from circle to patty.
4. TIMING IS EVERYTHING
This might be the number one thing we mess up when cooking up a nice burger; we destroy it. Meat is a delicate and beautiful thing. We must use fire, this abrasive thing, carefully when cooking a burger. When you're cooking a burger you will only be touching it 3 times. Put the burger on the grill and cook for 2 minutes, then rotate it 180 degrees. 2 more minutes of cooking and then you can flip it over. Then 4 more minutes and it is done. Now, you should not poke it or prod it. And you most certainly should not cut it open. Want to be sure it's done' Then use a meat thermometer to keep an eye on things, and only poke it in one place.
5. HERE COMES THE CHEESE
Not every person uses cheese on their burger, but when they do use it, they usually use it wrong. How can that be? Well, think about the process of eating a burger. Your tongue, which is how we taste things, is going to the touch the bottom bun first, then the bottom of the burger. Which is usually just meat, as the cheese is on top. Instead of that, put the cheese on the bottom on your burger. That way each bite has each flavor your burger, cheese, and condiments can offer up.
Burgers while camping are one of the greatest pleasures in the world. These burgers are more than just a meal; they are an event. An event that represents all that is beautiful about camping; adventure, freedom, and grilled meat.
