10 Tips to Make Camping More Comfortable

In many circumstances, camping is closely related to the term ‘roughing it.’ But don’t be fooled; comfortable camping is possible. Eureka is here to set the record straight. Here are 10 tips that will transform your camp (and your experience)!

1: Tent Sizes - Upgrade Your Space

Choosing an appropriate size of tent is one of the easiest ways to upgrade your camping trip.

When there’s room to sprawl out, and your nose isn’t crushed up against the tent wall, you will officially unlock a new level of comfortable camping. Here at Eureka, we have the El Capitan 4+ Outfitter 4 Person Tent. This tent offers 15% more floor space than a traditional tent model and has an upgraded amount of head and shoulder room.

Oh, you don’t like feeling hunched over in your tent? No problem! Cabin-style tents like the Jade Canyon, allow you to stretch out and stand up!

With tent features like this, you can rebuild your concept of ‘comfort’ while camping. Sprawl out, stand up, cuddle up– whatever you do, stay cozy.

2: Vestibules - Don’t Underestimate Your Vestibule

I am married to someone that talks about vestibules like others talk about their family dog.

Vestibule is a buzzword in our home, and for good reason. They are perfect for storing items that take up too much necessary space in the tent, but are also items that need to stay dry.

Shoes, backpacks, dogs, etc. tend to be dirty and/or space-hogs; keeping them in the vestibule is a camping game-changer. Not to mention, having your clothes/shoes in a reachable area makes waking up, and leaving the cozy confines of your sleeping bag, far more attainable.

**Search for tents that have two vestibules. This eliminates the annoying act of crawling over your sleeping partners during those early mornings.

3: Where You Sleep Matters - Be Picky!

When it comes to setting up your tent, never settle! Finding a level, flat area is essential.

Sleeping on a slope leaves you and your sleeping partner(s) in a mashed up pile of limbs at one end of the tent. It is always worth taking the extra time to find that perfect spot!

Once you’ve found your sleeping spot for the night, lay down your ground cloth (or a tarp) to create a vapor-moisture barrier between the ground and your tent floor. This will help keep the floor of your tent dry, as well as warmer.

Also, if you move some pesky rocks to flatten out the sleeping area, be sure to return them before you leave. Comfortable campers leave no trace.

4: Level Up - Sleep On a Cot

There is nothing better than a restful sleeping night while camping. Camping Cots are an incredibly comfortable addition to a camping setup.

The Quickset Cot is an easy one-piece setup, and can be quickly transferred from car to campsite. While a cot cannot be used in all camping scenarios, it certainly has elevated car-camping.

5: Relax and Recline - Bring Comfortable Camp Chairs

There are few things better than settling into your camp chair after a day spent exploring. Heck, there have been high country hikes, where the only motivating thought is the camp chair.

When the options are sitting on a piece of firewood, or the ground, or the camp chair– we’ll choose the latter. The best memories are made when a crowd of camp chairs are huddled together, and the people inside them are cozy, happy, and again, together. That is comfort.

Reclining in a camp chair? That’s a cherry on top of a great day. The Highback Recliner allows the star-gazers in all of us to lean back, and just simply, be.

6 & 7: Create a Comfortable Camp Kitchen

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again– everything tastes better while camping. Every comfort food tastes better when you enjoy it in the mountains. Period.

That being said, make sure your camping kitchen is up to ‘comfort-code.’ Here are a couple ways you can create a streamlined, accessible camping kitchen:

  • Bring a collapsible table. This helps the chef utilize more cooking space. Or, you can also use it as the dining area. Pull your camp chairs up, and have a group meal!
  • Make sure you have your camp stove packed and ready to use so that all those warm entrees can be heated up to perfection.
  • Always, always make sure you're stocked up on camp fuel! Without propane, we can’t create (and enjoy) our menu of comfort food.

8: Warm Drinks = Cozy People

Whether it’s the first sip of coffee, or the night-cap by the fire– comfort is involved. Have your favorite warm drinks ready to enjoy. Just like the food– every coffee, cocktail, and hot cocoa tastes better while camping.

**Also be sure to hold the warm cup with both hands. That is the epitome of comfort.

9: Bring the Music

Bring the guitar, the Bluetooth speaker, the harmonica, etc.! Create an atmosphere that feels good to be a part of. The comfort that music brings is unmatched. Not to mention, the people it brings together.

10: Socks

You’ll never have enough. Overpack. Trust us.

We hope your camping is comfortable, and your memories plentiful. See you out there!
