4 Basic Foods Made Better Over a Campfire

Foods that Taste Better Over a CampfireThe Campfire is a great place to make certain foods. The open fire unlocks secret flavors and hidden potential. A good campfire can make a big difference with these foods and your ability to enjoy them. This can be done simply and easily, without a lot of time or equipment. Check out these four simple foods that are just better over a fire.

TOMATOES

Place a grate over your open fire. Add a little Olive Oil to each side of some sliced tomatoes. Put the tomatoes on the Grate and let them wrinkle up over the fire. From here you can do many different things with these Tomatoes. You can chop them up and put them over pasta, a salad, or serve with grilled chicken. Add some tomato paste and mash it up with the toasted tomatoes and it makes a great pizza sauce.

PEPPERS

Much like Tomatoes, the open fire develops a lot of flavors in the Peppers. Green, yellow, orange, and red alike. They are tasty, healthy, and hard to mess up. Split the peppers down the middle and take out the seeds. If you are going to be making stuffed peppers and want some heat, use the seeds for the filling. Put a little bit of oil on the peppers and put them over an open fire until the flesh starts to brown. These Peppers can be used for anything, especially a pizza topping with your new tomato sauce.

APPLES

Apples get soft, sweet, and delicious over an open fire. You have to watch them closely, though, as once they burn they lose that sweetness. Core your apple, cut into slices, and coat with a little bit of butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and maybe a dash of sugar. Put them in a pan and put that over the open fire. These can be eaten just like this or you can put them with Oatmeal or Ice Cream.

NUTS

Roasted nuts are amazing. They are healthy, tasty, and super easy to make. You can make any style of nuts. If you want something earthy and Indian style look to peanuts. Roast them up with a little oil, cumin, curry, and turmeric. If you want sweet Nuts that can be added to breakfast or dessert get some Pecans and roast them with oil, cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg. A good snack are Spicy Nuts which you can make with Almonds, oil, garlic powder, chili powder, and paprika. All of these are really easy to make and are great for having around the Campsite.

These four foods are very versatile, cook up really nice, and are really good for you. Once you master these simple foods, you have a great start to any meal you may want to make. Who knows, maybe once you get home you may have to light up your fire pit just to get some of that open fire flavor.
